Lancashire Second XI v Middlesex
Tom Bailey’s five-wicket haul helped Lancashire Second XI drag themselves back into their friendly against Middlesex on day one at Aigburth.
The visitors subsided from 260-4 to 305 all out, with Bailey getting in amongst Middlesex’s tail to finish with figures of 5-42. The Red Rose negotiated a tricky four overs at the end of the day to finish on 13 without loss.
Lancashire started well and reduced Middlesex to 37-2, but a lengthy partnership between George Scott and Robbie White gave the home attack a stern test. Scott was eventually trapped in front by Bradley Woolley for 84, and White was sixth man out when he fell for 102, caught by Arron Lilley off Sam Oldham.
Bailey then got stuck into the away side’s late order batsmen, taking the last four wickets to fall to return with a well-deserved five-for. Lancs will resume with Calum Turner and Taylor Cornall at the crease on Tuesday morning.
Tom Bailey struck with the ball late on day two of Lancashire’s Second XI friendly against Middlesex at Aigburth after the Red Rose had conceded a narrow first innings lead.
Following his five-wicket haul on Monday, Bailey’s 34 from number eight had earlier helped Lancs to reach 289, 16 behind Middlesex’s total from the first day.
He then trapped visitors’ opener Tom Lace in front with the penultimate delivery of the day to leave Middlesex on 4-1, 20 runs ahead.
Resuming on 13-0, Lancs recovered from the early loss of Calum Turner to reach 90 before Taylor Cornall and Rob Jones fell in quick succession.
Josh Bohannon played well for his eventual 64, but he could not find a partner able to stay with him for long until Bailey went to the crease. The pair added 72 before Bohannon fell, with Bailey being dismissed just one run later.
But an excellent ninth wicket stand of 64 from Liam Hurt (38) and Saqib Mahmood (21) took Lancashire close to the Middlesex total, but Bailey still had enough time to continue his excellent match when he struck in the last of the three overs that the visitors had to negotiate.
