Lancashire Second XI lost to Nottinghamshire by one run (D/L) in the opening T20 at Liverpool CC yesterday, with the second game abandoned due to the weather.
The Red Rose previously cruised to an emphatic nine-wicket victory in the first Championship fixture earlier in the week, prior to their defeat yesterday.
After an unsettled start to their innings the home team found themselves 14-2 off just three overs, before the Red Roses finally began to settle at the crease, as they raced to 80-2 before the loss of two quick-fire wickets within three deliveries, as Jordan Clarke (37) and Rob Jones (27) were the batsman sent walking back to the pavilion.
Incoming Brooke Guest and Danny Lamb put up some resistance against Nottinghamshire’s attack, instead applying pressure on to their bowlers as they enjoyed success out in the middle, finishing on 26 and 33 respectively to put up a defending total of 146.
Not getting off to the start that they wanted, Lancashire found themselves struggling to break up the opening partnership, as Nottinghamshire smashed their way to 64 without loss, Sam Wood (47) and Tom Moores (36).
However, two wickets within an over apart, halted the momentum of the Nottinghamshire batsman as they struggled to rekindle the run rate from the first five overs as Lancashire began to have more control over the game.
Weather had its say as Lancashire’s hold increased as Stephen Parry claimed two wickets in the same over to reduce Nottinghamshire to 83-4 before rain intervened and Nott’s finished on 91-4 off 13.3 over, as Duckworth Lewis played god.
Next up for Lancashire seconds XI is Derbyshire away in the second XI T20 at Glossop CC, 11:00 on 24 June.
