Academy enjoy week at Shrewsbury School Festival
Lancashire Academy enjoyed the Shrewsbury School Festival earlier this month winning two out of the three fixtures played.
The festival included the Lancashire Academy, Northants Academy, Durham Academy and a Shropshire Development side in which there was one 50 over game and two T20 matches.
The opening game was the 50 overs per side game against Durham. This was a low scoring fixture as Lancashire posted 179/8 from 50 overs with Sam Oldham (36) and Liam Grey (35) top scoring for the Red Rose. In reply, Durham were bowled out for 135 with Rehan Udwadia impressing with the ball taking 5/22.
Lancashire then took on Shropshire on Day Two and Shropshire were bowled out for just 78 with Lancashire's bowlers Hartley (2/16), Furqan Shafiq (2/12) and Dan Houghton (2/3) all impressing. Lancashire chased the runs down, just two wickets down with Jones (30) and Bradley Yates (24*) top scoring.
In the afternoon Lancashire took on Northants and Gary Yates's side were bowled out for 104 with only Chris Laker (42) providing any resistance against the bowling attack. Northants, playing a strong squad, chased the total down with just ease, losing just two wickets.
Academy Director, Gary Yates said, "It was a very enjoyable week with the side and it was great to see the lads playing competitive sides over the course of the three days. We played an attacking and exciting brand of cricket and that's something I really wanted to see.
"We don't have many Academy fixtures throughout the summer so it was an important week to expose the players to T20 cricket against equally strong Academy sides."
