Brooke Guest signs for Lancashire on a summer contract

Lancashire County Cricket Club have signed 19 year-old wicket keeper Brooke Guest on a summer contract for the 2017 season.

The wicket-keeper, who also played for Sale CC this summer, represented Lancashire Second XI during the side’s 2016 campaign, averaging nearly 40 in three-day Championship cricket. He was also part of the side that won the Second XI One-Day Trophy against Somerset at Emirates Old Trafford in August.

Guest will return to Emirates Old Trafford in March next year ahead of the Club’s pre-season after playing grade cricket in Australia over the winter.

Guest said, “I’m really excited to get this opportunity with Lancashire. I thoroughly enjoyed my time playing for the Second XI last summer and I’m looking forward to continuing my development with the Club next summer.

“Hopefully I can keep contributing in the Second XI and push for a place in the First Team.”

The right handed wicket keeper batsman has previously featured for Australia U19’s including being named in their World Cup squad before Australia withdrew due to security concerns. He has now committed his future to England.

Thanks Chris. Hope his rehabilitation will restore him back to full fitness. Great promise and had done very well in the early part of the season, didn`t know about the injury. I live in Europe and its often difficult to be totally up to date as possible, but I have been a LCCC supporter since the early 60`s.

Alex Davies was injured last year which is why he did not play after the end of May. Serious knee injury requiring surgery. That's why saying he is in training was meant to be good news.

Thanks for the reply although that was more about Jos whose future is pretty well mapped out. My question reference Alex Davies was more of why after good performances in the first team last year did he disappear? And where to as he wasn`t in the second XI nor did he appear in the Team listings for both! "in training" is similar to "the train is at the platform" without any details.

Alex Davies is in training.
Lancs have signed Brooke Guest as Jos Buttler has played one championship match in the last two years. He was even rested for the final match of the season, even though his earlier injury had afforded him plenty of rest from playing, when Lancashire had hoped he would be made (or request to be) available.
His 2017 season will be similar: IPL, ODIs, ICC, followed by rest, maybe even a trip to the West Indies for their T20, followed by more rest - even if he doesn't get a test recall and secure a place in the test side. Who knows, until the fixtures come out, if Lancs will even be playing championship cricket in whatever small window of availability Jos has for county cricket.
Welcome Brooke, lets hope for a continued increase his batting average as he becomes more accustomed to English conditions.
