England v Pakistan First Investec Test Match highlights
Can England make amends in the next Test Match at Emirates Old Trafford?
The First Investec Test Match ended in misery for England as Pakistan came out on top in a thrilling opening Test Match at Lord’s.
England, who were without Lancashire County Cricket Club star Jimmy Anderson and Ben Stokes, struggled to combat Pakistan’s strong batting line up – with Yasir Shah taking most of the plaudits after a record ten-wicket haul at Lord’s.
Pakistan got off to a flying start on Day 1 of the Investec Test with Misbah-ul-Haq’s celebration becoming the theme of the Test Match as he finished with 110 not out, with the hosts on 282-6. Day 2 started brightly for England who managed to bowl Pakistan out for 339 - but the jubilation was short lived as the host’s middle order collapsed with England closing on 253-7, and were bowled out in under 40 minutes on Day 3 for 272.
After an early scare for the visitors who lost their first wicket in just 7 minutes, Pakistan picked up the pace and headed into lunch on 40-1. England seemed refreshed after the break with impressive fielding that saw Pakistan reduced to 60-4 but again the visitors fought back to reach 129 before the next wicket was taken.
Pakistan finished Day 3 on 214-8, 281 ahead of England with two-wickets remaining.
The excitement continued into Day 4 with England bowling Pakistan out for 215, chasing 283 to win. However it was the inexperience of England’s batsmen which led to them being bowled out for 207 – 75 runs short, with Yasir Shah taking four-wickets in the second innings, over-taking Jimmy Anderson as the no.1 Test Match bowler.
England now turn their attention to the Second Investec Test Match at Emirates Old Trafford for what will be another thrilling match of international cricket between these two nations. Can England level the scores? Or will Pakistan further their lead?
