England v Pakistan at Edgbaston - Day 2

Third Investec Test Match, Day 2 Highlights

What seemed to be the perfect start for England quickly turned out to a nightmare as Pakistan ran riot on Day 2 of the Third Investec Test at Edgbaston, with the visitors finishing on 257-3.

After struggling on Day 1 of the Third Test, England looked to bounce back and find the destructive form that was evident during the Second Investec Test at Emirates Old Trafford. After getting off to a perfect start with Lancashire’s Jimmy Anderson taking a wicket with the first ball of the game (a great ball just outside off stump against Mohammad Hafeez who guided it into the hands of Gary Balance), the Three Lions struggled to reduce the Pakistan onslaught that reached 181 before the next wicket was taken.

The day seemed to follow the same pattern, with Pakistan batting with purpose in their bid to once again retain the lead in this thrilling Test series. A century from Azhar Ali reinforced Pakistan’s intent who managed to reach 139.

However England can take something positive away from Day 2 into Day 3 - as Alastair Cook caught out Ali on the final ball to leave Pakistan on 257-3, 40 runs short of England’s score. Will England be able to build on the final ball heroics?

Oh yeah… and once again…cue the press-ups
