Giles expects Lancashire response against Northants

Ashley Giles admits tonight’s NatWest T20 Blast clash with Northamptonshire comes at the ideal time for his Lightning players.

The county suffered a humbling 50-over defeat against Yorkshire at Emirates Old Trafford last night, being bowled out for 84 in pursuit of 327.

But they are back out on the park immediately, and have the chance to put the reverse behind them tonight, starting 6.30pm, in a repeat of last season's final at Edgbaston, which the Red Rose won.

Blast champions Lancashire go into the clash with two wins from five in the North Group, with the coach last night describing their Steelbacks meeting as “must-win”.

“The way we are playing, we are making every game a must-win,” said the county’s cricket director and head coach.

“It probably is the best way rather than moping around for a couple of days. We have to get back on the horse and go again. We need a win.”

Northants have started this competition with three wins from four and sit second in the table.
