Giles reveals overseas signing is close
Head Coach and Cricket Director Ashley Giles has revealed that he isn’t far away from signing an overseas player for the 2016 campaign.
Giles was speaking at Ramsbottom Cricket Club where a number of the First Team squad were helping with the clean-up operation after their ground was badly affected in the recent floods.
“We are getting there with the overseas player. I hope within a week we will have something sorted. But it is very difficult to find someone to match our criteria because of international cricket, IPL, CPL and the Big Bash.
“I really want someone who is going to be available for most of the season, who is a good bloke, going to add to the dressing room environment and is going to be a wise head in a squad which has a lot of young players.
Last summer, Lancashire signed the Australian duo of Peter Siddle and James Faulkner who both made impressive contributions to the side.
“A seamer is still the preference. With Alviro Petersen coming back, that in effect is an overseas batsman slot. So having an option to get a seam bowler will be good for us.
“And we will definitely be looking for a second overseas for T20 as well.”
