Hameed stakes Test Match claim with unbeaten half century

Hameed stakes Test Match claim with unbeaten half century

Lancashire batsman Haseeb Hameed strengthened his claim of making his debut in the First Test against Bangladesh for England after an unbeaten half century in today's warm-up fixture.

Hameed opened the batting for the tourists, alongside Northamptonshire's Ben Duckett and retired at the tea interval after hitting 57 not out for England.

The 19 year-old took a couple of blows from Taskin Ahmed early on and although he he had a comparable strike rate for much of the session, compared to fellow opener Duckett, the Lancashire teenager remained vigilant as Duckett started to become more attack-minded.

After lunch, Hameed upped his tempo with three successive fours - a straight drive, late cut and pull emphasised the array of shots in his armoury - although Jonny Bairstow and Lancashire wicket keeper Jos Buttler did not last long.

Hameed reached his half-century with a flick through midwicket for four off his 114th ball and got to 57 before cutting short his innings as Ballance was given an opportunity to push his claims at the crease.

Haseeb Hammed should have played and opened today. What is Ballance doing in the side?, he should be replaced by Duckett. All due respect, but Duckett is not good enough to open in test cricket, he made his runs against lesser bowlers in division 2, he should replace Ballance and bat at number 4. Haseeb should be an automatic pick to open.
