Honours even on Day One against Yorkshire

Honours even on Day One against Yorkshire

The Lancashire bowling attack enjoyed a productive day in the field as Yorkshire finished Day One on 235/7 at the ICC Academy.

Captain Steven Croft won the toss and elected to bowl first in the final fixture of the Club’s pre-season tour in Dubai.

Lancashire made the perfect start as James Anderson, who opened the bowling, dismissed Matthew Waite in the first over, with Croft taking a safe catch at first slip.

Gary Balance joined Callis at the crease and the pair put on 47 for the second wicket before Saqib Mahmood trapped the later LBW.

SCORECARD

Ballance played nicely, hitting five boundaries in his 83-ball innings before he played on to Toby Lester in the 25th over to leave Yorkshire 63/3.

Tim Bresnan (23) walked to the crease and played positively on a slow wicket before Lester picked up his second wicket of the day, bowling the Yorkshire and former England all-rounder.

Andrew Hodd and Jack Leaning frustrated Lancashire in the afternoon session as the pair put on 51 for the fifth wicket but Tom Bailey took his first wicket dismissing Hodd after a tight spell of bowling, giving few runs away.

Leaning (48), the pick of the Yorkshire batsman was next to go as Arron Lilley took a fine catch at point off the bowling of Kyle Jarvis. Rafiq, the next batsman in for the White Rose, didn’t last long as with Stephen Parry trapping the off-spinning all-rounder LBW to leave Yorkshire 197/7.

A frustrating partnership between Steven Patterson and Will Rhodes helped Yorkshire past 200 and Yorkshire finished the day on 235/7.

Lancashire will bat on Day 2.
