India storm to eight-wicket victory in Mohali
India v England – Match Report
India stormed to an eight-wicket victory in Mohali on Day 4 of the Third Test Match against England to go 2-0 up in the series.
England went into Day 4, 56 runs behind the hosts after Ravindra Jadeja produced a Day 3 batting masterclass to give India a healthy lead heading into days play. England who started on 78-4 were always in danger of an early exit, especially with Lancashire batsman Haseeb Hameed moved up the order due to an injury to his finger.
But England made a valiant last stand to take the lead, with Joe Root managing 78 and Haseeb Hameed, in at 8, showing exactly why he is considered a future great with a last stand half century – before James Anderson was run out to leave the Three Lions all out for 236…102 runs in front of the hosts.
With 103 required to win, the final results was only ever a matter of time – even with the early wicket which saw India on 7-1 by the second over. But India’s batting line up proved too strong for England bowlers as Parthiv Patel produced a thrilling half-century to claim what turned out to be a routine victory.
Haseeb Hameed continues to shine
The young Lancashire County Cricket Club and England batsman Haseeb Hameed continued to showcase his talents on the big stage with a mature performance.
Although ruled out for the final two tests due to a hand injury sustained during the first innings on Day 4, Haseeb will no doubt be key to England’s future plans after recent performances in his first Test series.
Haseeb reached his second half-century of the series with a six…showing his class under immense pressure.
England move up the ICC Test rankings
England will finish the year second in the ICC Test Rankings behind India after a successful 2016 which saw victories against South Africa, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
