Lancashire's full 2017 fixture list announced

Lancashire’s full fixture list for the 2017 season has been announced with the Red Rose starting their Specsavers County Championship Division One campaign away against newly promoted Essex which starts on Friday 7th April at Chelmsford.

The season will start with a block of three First Class fixtures against Essex, Surrey and Somerset before a further group of eight games in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Lancashire Lightning’s opening fixture in white ball cricket will be against Leicestershire on Friday 28th April at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Roses match in the Specsavers County Championship against Yorkshire starts on Friday 19th May at Emirates Old Trafford before the return fixture just two weeks later at Headingley on Friday 2nd June.

Lancashire Lightning will start the 2017 NatWest T20 Blast campaign away at Durham Jets on Friday 7th July, a week before the first instalment of the highly anticipated Roses clash between Lancashire Lightning and Yorkshire Vikings at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 14th July. The return fixture will take place on Friday 11th August at Headingley.

The Specsavers County Championship fixture against Hampshire is likely to be at Emirates Old Trafford but could move to an outground after the Club have final details around a potential second music concert date.

Southport and Birkdale CC will host the Specsavers County Championship fixture against Champions Middlesex on Friday 9th June and will be hoping to replicate the game wide plaudits they received for staging last year’s match against Durham. Liverpool CC will also host their first game in two years as Lancashire Lightning take on Northamptonshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup on Friday 5th May.

Blackpool CC will host one NatWest T20 Blast fixture for the first time on either 9th/16th July against Leicestershire Foxes or Derbyshire Falcons respectively. The Club is keen to take the ever-growing T20 format further afield in Lancashire, and to offer more supporters further away from Emirates Old Trafford the opportunity to access the shortest form of the game. An update will be provided in due course on the confirmation of dates around the Blackpool T20 fixture. This will be the first time in seven years Lancashire has played a domestic T20 at an outground and a combination of Blackpool’s excellent recent record of driving attendances and with the fixtures now in the height of summer has given us this opportunity.

Chief Executive Daniel Gidney commented, “We are delighted to be hosting Lancashire fixtures in all three formats at Southport, Blackpool and Liverpool next year.

“We have always been keen to take T20 cricket around Lancashire as we have a commitment to grow, nurture and develop cricket and to strengthen links with recreational cricket (where T20 as a format is delivering higher player retention rates) across the Red Rose County so we’re thrilled that a NatWest T20 Blast clash will be held at Blackpool CC and will confirm soon which fixture will be hosted at Emirates Old Trafford and at Blackpool in early July.”

Given that Hameed will either be on a central contract or wrapped in cotton wool on the orders of Bayliss, Peterson likely to be further detained in SA by 'family business' and Buttler unlikely to play much either, I hope some thoughts are being given to strengthening the batting although I doubt very much if anything will result. In the meantime let's have a big shoutout for the ECB going from strength to strength in their campaign to destroy the county game. County matches in the first week of April? Absolute idiocy.

Graham Anderson

Became a new member on 31st oct paying £300 to take advantage of early bird offer - having now seen the fixture list in view of the fact that possibly no championship games at OT for two months in the height of summer could I now ask for a refund - what would happen at the other OT if no home games in say Mar and Apr - what's the diffence ??? I feel I have been somewhat conned - I would have thought a brand new member like me would be like gold dust to the club - I have already been alienated

David Rostron

So Yorkshire county game surprise Surprise Sunday of game united at home absolutely no thought to those who want to go to match but won't go because of united match and hassle of travel associated no thought to members

Barry Turner-Newall

So most CC games are in April and Sept when half the days will be lost to weather. They couldn't be doing a better job of killing country cricket if they actually had a plan. Nice to see a game at Aigburth but should have been a four dayer.

"The Specsavers County Championship fixture against Hampshire is likely to be at Emirates Old Trafford but could move to an outground after the Club have final details around a potential second music concert date." which would mean Lancashire not playing first class cricket at Old Trafford between 22nd May and 28th August.
