Second XI enjoy opening day against Yorkshire
Lancashire Academy batsman Calum Turner hit his first century for the Second XI as the Red Rose posted 239/3 on the opening day at Todmorden CC before the rain arrived.
Captain Stephen Parry won the toss and elected to bat first but Luis Reece (17) was dismissed by Matthew Waite. Fellow opening batsman Calum Turner, who impressed with a half century against Northants a couple of weeks ago, played fluently from the outset.
Turner was joined by Brooke Guest (27) and the pair put on 77 for the second wicket before the latter was dismissed by Yorkshire fast bowler Josh Shaw. Turner then brought up his half century as all-rounder Rob Jones joined him at the crease.
The Yorkshire bowlers were disciplined and never let Lancashire push the scoring rate much beyond 3 runs an over, but Turner and Jones played excellently for Mark Chilton's side.
Turner (103) brought up his century but was soon dismissed off the bowling of Barnes which left the visitors 185/3 with Josh Bohannon (27*), another Lancashire Academy player, walking to the crease.
Jones (50*) brought up his half century before the rain arrived in Yorkshire and Lancashire closed the day 239/3 and in a strong position going into the final day.
