Wasim Akram on the Second Investec Test Match

Wasim Akram on the Second Investec Test Match

Pakistan and Lancashire legend Wasim Akram is looking forward to the passion, tension and excitement that is set to be on show at the Second Investec Test which gets underway on Friday at Emirates Old Trafford.

The left-arm paceman spent a decade with the Red Rose and wrote his name into the annals of Lancashire history. Regarded as one of the game’s best-ever cricketers, Wasim cannot wait to see the team come face to face for round two, and the fans experience the passion, tension and excitement at Emirates Old Trafford – a place he calls ‘home’.

Speaking exclusively to lccc.co.uk, he said: “I know that the Pakistan team and the supporters are all looking forward to coming back to my county, Lancashire County Cricket Club, to watch the second test match at Emirates Old Trafford.

“Seeing Pakistan playing back ‘home’ is always something I look forward to. I spent so many happy years there and they made me into the bowler I was.

“The ground is a very special place and holds so many great memories for me. The supporters there are very, very passionate and always get behind the team.

“I made so many great friends there and I stay in touch with quite a few of them. Playing for Lancashire and at Emirates Old Trafford shaped me not only as a cricketer but a person.”

Pakistan were the last Test team to beat England back in 2001 and Wasim believes that his countrymen will be buoyed by their victory at Lord’s.

He added: “The First Test at Lord’s was a great match and with Pakistan winning it certainly makes the Test at Emirates Old Trafford very interesting.

“Pakistan have got a great pace attack and in Yasir Shah they have one of the best leg spinners in the world. But England will be keen to bounce back and with Lancashire’s very own Jimmy Anderson back into the attack, I’m sure the game will be a really exciting contest.”

Emirates Old Trafford has seen a great response from both England and Pakistan fans following last weekend’s epic encounter. Tickets are available from just £25 for adults and just £6 for juniors.
