Wickets tumble in Second XI fixture vs Derbyshire
The game moved on at quite a pace on Day Two of Lancashire Second XI's fixture against Derbyshire at Northern CC today.
Yesterday, Lancashire won the toss and elected to field first before Tom Bailey (3/8) made an immediate impression.
The fast bowled took three quick wickets to reduce the visitors to 33/3 before Ben Slater and Sam Elstone recovered Derbyshire's innings somewhat.
The pair put on 40 for the fourth wicket partnership before Jordan Clark trapped Slater LBW with Derbyshire 77/4.
The visitors then collapsed with Nathan Buck (2/30), Gavin Griffiths (2/3) and Clark (3/22) all taking further wickets as Derbyshire were bowled out for 104 from 43 overs.
Tom Smith bowled four overs conceding 14 runs as he continues to make his comeback after last year's back injury.
In reply, Lancashire lost two early wickets with Luis Reece (5) and Rob Jones (2) falling cheaply but Clark joined opening batsman Smith at the crease and the pair played nicely for the third wicket.
Smith (34) and Clark (48) put on 78 before the latter was dismissed by bowler Tom Taylor. Bailey and Stephen Parry lost their wickets cheaply before Smith was caught behind off the bowling Greg Cork, son of former Lancashire bowler Dominic.
Bradley Yates (16) and Arron Lilley (23) contributed with late runs as Lancashire were bowled out for 150, a first innings lead of 46.
Derbyshire's second innings saw much better batting from the visitors and they closed the day 123/3 (two wickets from Parkinson, one from Clark), a lead of 77 going into the final day.
