4,000 children to attend Schools Day at Emirates Old Trafford

Nearly 4,000 pupils and school teachers from over 70 primary schools in the North West will be at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday for the opening day (19th May) of Lancashire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Roses rivals Yorkshire.

The Schools Open Day, now in its fifth year, is part of the Lancashire Way project, which is a joint initiative between Lancashire County Cricket Club, the LCCC Foundation and the Lancashire Cricket Board.

A specially-created Activity Zone has been created at Emirates Old Trafford which will include an inflatable bowling game, a climbing wall, circus skills as well as remote controlled cars. The event is also being supported by the uniformed services with the Army, RAF, Police and Fire Service providing vehicles and activities for the children’s entertainment.

Pupils from St Dunstan’s RC in Moston and St Thomas CE in Oldham will perform a Guard of Honour prior to the start of the morning session to cheer on captain Steven Croft and the rest of the team.

Teachers will also have the opportunity to find our more information about the LCCC Foundations’ ‘Education Without Boundaries’ programme in the AJ Bell Players & Media Centre during the lunch interval.

The lunch break will also see four schools including Green End from Burnage, Sacred Heart Catholic from Wythenshawe, St John with St Mark CE from Bury and All Saints CE from Stockport play Kwik Cricket on the outfield, led by the Lancashire Cricket Board.

Sandy Mitchell, LCCC Foundation Director said, “This is our fifth Schools Open Day and we’re once again very excited about this year’s event. It will be great to see 4,000 young people enjoying the experience of First Class cricket at Emirates Old Trafford watching Lancashire County Cricket Club in an important fixture in the Specsavers County Championship against Yorkshire.

“There will be a wide range of fun, physical and educational activities for the children to enjoy other than the cricket and we hope everyone that attends has a great day.”
