Emirates Old Trafford to host Queen’s Baton and Commonwealth Games England

Lancashire County Cricket Club and official kit supplier Kukri Sports are pleased to announce the appearance of the Queen’s Baton at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday 18 August. The Queen’s Baton Relay is a Games tradition that celebrates the Commonwealth’s diversity, inspiring community pride and excites people about the world-class festival of sports and culture to come.

The baton will proudly undertake a lap of honour before Lancashire Lightning’s NatWest T20 Blast clash against Birmingham Bears (7pm start).

As part of its journey, the baton will visit every Commonwealth nation and territory covering almost a third of the world’s population. Placed within the Baton is a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II that calls the Commonwealth’s athletes to come together in peaceful and friendly competition.

The Baton will arrive on the Gold Coast for the XXI Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony on 4 April 2018, where Her Majesty, or a representative, will remove the message from the Baton and read it aloud to officially open the Games.
