Lancashire and England star James Anderson has been named as England vice-captain for the upcoming Ashes series in Australia.

Anderson, 35, is England’s leading wicket taker with 506 wickets in 129 Test Matches for the Three Lions and has been selected ahead of ex-skipper Alastair Cook and fellow bowler Stuart Broad as Joe Root’s second-in-command.

2017 has been a memorable year for the Burnley born star, whose achievements for Lancashire and England were recognised by the renaming of the Pavilion End to the James Anderson End at Emirates Old Trafford in the summer.

The first Test of the Ashes series will take place on 23 November in Brisbane, and Jimmy will no doubt bring vast experience to his new role.
