WINTER WATCH: Buttler stars for Sydney Thunder
Lancashire and England wicket keeper Jos Buttler hit an impressive 81 off just 43 balls on Monday for Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash.
It was his second half century in as many games for Sydney Thunder who were narrowly beaten by Hobart Hurricanes by 9 runs.
Thunder won the toss and bowled first with the Hurricanes reaching an impressive total of 189/3, largely thanks to D'Arcy Short's 97 and Ben McDermott's 49 not.
Buttler opened the batting for Sydney Thunder and the hosts kept up with the required rate after six overs with the score 65/0. Buttler and Patteron were both timing the ball beautifully and finding the rope regularly, including shot of the match from Buttler who ramped Sussex bowler Tymal Mills for 6!
Their partnership was worth 69 when Patterson was unluckily run out at the non-strikers end for 36 after Short got fingertips to a Buttler straight drive. Shane Watson then hit 36 but was caught on the long on boundary after a 56-run partnership with Buttler. The hosts collapsed losing three quick wickets and no one else made double figures until number 9 Sandhu struck a couple of lusty blows to give Thunder hope.
Buttler was run out in the final over trying to get himself on strike having batted superbly, notching his second half century in as many matches. He was 81 from 43 when he was run out, an innings that included seven 4 s and five 6s.
