15-year-old right-arm leg-spinner Mo Abid, has been awarded a Scholarship to spend 2-weeks with world-renowned spin coach Terry Jenner at the Cricket Academy in Adelaide, South Australia.

Abid represents Lancashire in both the Under 15s and 17s, and plays his club cricket at Ashton Cricket Club in the Central Lancashire League.

It’s been a busy 6 months for Mo, who this summer also represented England Under 15’s.

He has been part of Lancashire’s Spin Skill Sets which form part of the Emerging Performance Programme (EPP) since its inception 12 months ago, under the guidance of the club’s Assistant Coach Gary Yates and Chris Benbow, one of the EPP Coaching Staff.

On confirmation of the scholarship, Gary Yates said; “Mo is one of several promising young spinners that we have within the Lancashire Skill Sets Programme.  Having previously attended in a coaching capacity, I know this truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity for any young wrist-spinner to learn from Shane Warne’s former coach and mentor.

“Mo already demonstrates many of the attributes needed to be a successful first-class spinner, but learning from a former International wrist-spinner will provide the mental and tactical insight needed to take his game to the next level.”

Earlier this season, Mo was invited to attend a Talent Identification Programme for Spin Bowlers at the National Academy at Loughborough, and it’s from this course he was selected by Terry Jenner and David Parsons, Director of the National Performance Centre to be the recipient of this scholarship.

Mo left on Sunday, with the 2-week Scholarship taking place during the half-term holidays.
