Lancashire Head Coach Peter Moores has announced a 12-man squad for the Lightning's Twenty20 Cup Quarter-Final against the Somerset Sabres at Old Trafford on Tuesday (5:40pm start).
The Red Rose County qualified for a home quarter-final by topping the North Division with 17 points, including eight wins from the nine matches played (tenth match v Durham was a no result).
Unfortunately, Captain Glen Chapple has been ruled out of cricket for the next few fixtures with a stress reaction in his left foot. The nature of the injury means the length on the sidelines will depend on how Glen’s foot responds to ongoing treatment. Mark Chilton, who captained the Lightning during their NatWest Pro40 League win over Surrey last Wednesday, will deputise for this Twenty20 Cup Quarter-Final.
Speaking from Old Trafford, Peter Moores said: “To win eight of our group matches was a great effort, though it will mean little if we can’t recapture that form now we are in the knock out stages. Momentum is an important thing in sport and our win against Surrey in the NatWest Pro40, although in a different competition, was a great boost and reminded us all of how we go about our one day cricket.
“The opposition doesn’t come much harder than Somerset. Led by Justin Langer, the Sabres have arguably the most explosive and experienced batting line-ups in the country with the likes of Marcus Trescothick, Craig Keiswetter and James Hildreth. We will definitely have to be at our best and like always, hopefully the breaks will go our way.”
