Smith Looking Forward To Unicorns Clash

Smith Looking Forward To Unicorns ClashTOM SMITH believes Lancashire Lightning will need to be on top of their game when they lock horns with Unicorns on Saturday.

The Red Rose return to Clydesdale Bank 40 action at the weekend against a side that has provoked much debate among cricketing circles.

But the Lancashire all-rounder acknowledges that he and his team-mates will need to be on song if they are to get a result against a team of cricketers with a point to prove.

Earlier in the season, the Unicorns got their names into the record books when they successfully chased down a target of 325 set by Sussex to register a 327/4 victory.

Wes Durston earned a professional contract with Derbyshire on the back of his batting displays with the Unicorns, and Smith reckons the concept has been a success.

Smith said: “Well, they are ahead of us in the table! They are certainly not a team to be treated lightly. They are a group of lads who want to get back into professional cricket and it’s been a great idea by the ECB to get them into the competition.

"They are a strong team and the likes of Wes Durston, who was signed up at Derbyshire, shows what can be achieved.

“But it’s a game that we’ll be going in to wanting to win. We will do everything we can to pick up the victory.”
