Greater Manchester's Metrolink has been named the official public transport partner of Lancashire County Cricket Club.
The partnership sees the pair team up for the 2010/2011 seasons.
A trio of players, Mark Chilton, Gary Montgomery and Tom Smith joined Metrolink Director, Philip Purdy, at the remodelled Old Trafford tram stop to announce the partnership and to open the stop.
Mr Purdy said: “The partnership between Metrolink and LCCC is good news for Greater Manchester, particularly passengers and cricket fans. We have invested heavily in remodelling the Old Trafford Metrolink stop to make it easier and more comfortable for passengers to use at the busiest times and I am delighted Mark, Gary and Tom were able to join me to officially open it.
“Conveniently located behind the ground, the tram is perfect for fans travelling to matches. Fast and frequent, Metrolink provides a hassle free journey to LCCC.”
Geoff Durbin, Commercial Director at Lancashire County Cricket Club added: “We are lucky to have our very own tram stop outside the stadium. Partnering with Metrolink will enhance the experience at LCCC for cricket fans from all over the UK. We look forward to working with Metrolink for the 2010/11 season and beyond.”
