Hegg Hoping For Change Of Luck

Hegg Hoping For Change Of Luck

ONE FORMER Lancashire captain will be hoping for a different outcome when Scotland visit Emirates Old Trafford on Tuesday 18 June for the latest Yorkshire Bank 40 fixture.

On their three previous visits to Lancashire’s home ground, the Celtic nation has won each match.

The first of those games saw the Red Rose lose by 41 runs in a National League encounter in 2003.

And for Warren Hegg, former wicketkeeper and captain of the Club, the memory is still as vivid almost ten years to the day.

Hegg said: “I guess we were guilty of underestimating Scotland that day. I was captain and I was pretty confident that we’d see off the challenge relatively easy.

“I was wrong! We weren’t at the races that day and it’s fair to say there was a ‘heated discussion’ in the changing rooms after the game!”

Scotland racked up 192 runs for 8 wickets from their 45 overs, but they bowled Lancashire out for 151.

But Hegg, who is now the Club’s Business Development Manager, is not one to hold grudges and is looking forward to welcoming the ‘Auld Enemy’ back to a new look Emirates Old Trafford, where the stunning redeveloped Pavilion will be opened to Lancashire Members for the first time.

“We know there are a large number of Scottish people living in the Manchester area and it would be fantastic for them to come down for the game. They love their sport and it would be great for them to add to the atmosphere.

“Having said that, I really hope the Lancashire lads win so I can finally put that particular memory to bed!”
