Kate Stars In Historic Win

Former Lancashire Academy star Kate Cross helped England make history as they became the first side to beat the West Indies in a one-day series in the Caribbean since 2003.

The 22-year-old was named player of the match in the first game as she claimed 4-51 on her ODI debut for her country.

Kate, who was the first girl to be named in Lancashire’s Academy in 2006, bowled an economic spell in the second game on Sunday which England won to clinch the series at 2-0.

“To put in that kind of performance in her first game is fantastic,” said captain Charlotte Edwards.

“Kate has impressed us throughout the whole trip.

"This trip was about us giving our younger girls an opportunity and you just hope they are going to take it.

“She has done that with both hands, which is fantastic.”

Kate will  be hoping her form will put her in contention for a place in the Women’s Ashes squad, which gets underway in January.
