LANCASHIRE WICKETKEEPER Jos Buttler has joined the KFC T20 Big Bash League side Melbourne Renegades.
Buttler is currently Down Under with the England Performance Programme squad and will be available for his new side’s opening fixture against local rivals, the Stars, on December 20.
"It’s a great opportunity for me to join the strong and competitive Renegades squad," said the 23-year-old, who boasts a strike rate of 148.95 in the shortest form of the game.
"I look forward to being a part of a very successful campaign for the team."
Renegades coach Simon Helmot believes Buttler, one of England’s outstanding performers in their ODI series against Australia in September, is the perfect T20 middle-order batsman.
"Two things you’ll notice about Jos are his clean striking of the ball and the amount of brute force behind his strokes," said Helmot. "It’s a real treat to see him on song and hear the sound of the ball thumping off his bat – hopefully he gets going for our members this summer."
Buttler, who arrived at Emirates Old Trafford in September, joins Sri Lankan spin legend and former Lancs star Muttiah Muralitharan and Pakistani all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez as international players on the Renegades list for BBL|03.
Muralitharan will play the entire season, while Buttler will feature in the opening fixtures before being replaced by Hafeez.
