AFTER REPRESENTING the England Performance Programme in Australia recently and ahead of the Three Lions' forthcoming ODI series Down Under, Lancashire's batsman-wicketkeeper Jos Buttler has signed up to play for the Melbourne Renegades in the KFC T20 Big Bash.
During his stay at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he will be keeping us all up-to-date with his and the Renegades’ progress in the Big Bash.
In his first first match for the Renegades against City rivals the Melbourne Stars, Jos smashed 49 runs off 28 balls and hit the ropes with regularity. But the Renegades didn't manage to open their campaign with a victory as they fell short of a daunting target of 209 runs.
It was great to make my Big Bash debut on Friday night at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Obviously we were outplayed and came up short chasing down a big target, but thats the nature of T20 cricket and chasing that amount of runs isn't done very successfully too many times!
On a personal note I was reasonably pleased with my performance but i was hoping to go on and get a big score and get us close to the target!
Besides the result I really enjoyed the occasion. Playing at the MCG was brilliant. Although the stadium looked nearly empty, there was over 25,000 spectators there and the noise was pretty good. There is expected to be a capacity crowd on Boxing Day so it will be an incredible atmosphere!
They really push the competition in the media and jazz the whole experience up with fireworks etc to make it a great show!
Looking ahead we will be flying to Perth on Christmas Eve and play the Scorchers on Boxing Day. They are a strong team who lost in the final last year so it will prove to be another tough game but we will be looking to get our first win on the board!
Hope all is well back home and have a great Christmas!
