Profile
Luke Sutton joined the club at the start of 2006 after a spell with Derbyshire where he spent the last two years as captain.
He has cemented his place in the County Championship line up, playing the vast majority of games over the last four seasons. And he now has a number of Lancashire records to his name.
The first came in his one-day debut against Leicestershire when he became the first Lancashire wicketkeeper to claim five catches in a C&G Trophy game.
The second came later on in the season when, in the County Championship, he hit the highest score ever by a Lancashire wicketkeeper. His 151 not out against Yorkshire was also a career best.
And the third came in the most recent season, 2009, as Luke broke the record for the most dismissals by any wicketkeeper in their first 50 first-class matches for the county, with the now 33 year-old claiming 167 catches or stumpings.
Luke’s 50th first-class match for Lancashire was against Hampshire at Liverpool in June.
The wicketkeeper/batsman spent six weeks on the sidelines through the middle of his first season with the county due to a broken thumb - but that didn’t stop him becoming an instant hit in the Lancashire dressing room.
His knowledge, ability and infectious enthusiasm for the game was a major asset as the club finished runners up to Sussex in both the C&G Trophy and the County Championship.
2007 was another solid season for the man born in Keynsham, Somerset. He hit Championship centuries against Warwickshire and Hampshire, but didn’t feature in the Twenty20 Cup due to the selection of Gareth Cross.
That same situation extended into the 2008 and 2009 seasons, and he didn’t feature in the Pro40 League campaigns either.
While Luke’s glovework has remained solid – that aforementioned third record goes to prove it – he was disappointed not to have recorded any big scores with the bat last summer.
He scored 377 runs from his 16 Championship matches in 2009, adding a top score of 45.
But he still remains a valued member of the Championship side, especially seen as his captaincy skills were called upon whilst regular skipper Glen Chapple was injured.
Luke has captained Lancashire in seven Championship matches in his time at the club, and has drawn all seven of them.
