Lancashire captain Glen Chapple has been named in the club's 12-man squad to play Sussex CCC in this week's LV= County Championship match at Old Trafford starting on Wednesday 2nd September (10:30am start).
Chapple has been sidelined with a stress reaction in his left foot for the past 7 weeks - last featuring in Lancashire’s 7-wicket victory against Worcestershire in the County Championship ending on 13th July.
Sajid Mahmood has also been passed fit to play in this fixture after making a successful return last Wednesday at Lord’s in a NatWest Pro40 League match against Middlesex where the rain was the winner. In the 26 overs played, Mahmood took 2 for 14 off 5 overs – showing great speed and accuracy after a 4-week lay off with a side strain.
On loan Seamer Tom Lungley has been recalled by Derbyshire for their Championship match against Kent and everyone at Lancashire CCC would like to thank Tom for this total commitment and enthusiasm during his 4-week spell at Old Trafford – he has endeared himself to many people.
Tom Smith is still receiving treatment for an abdominal tear, Andrew Flintoff is unavailable due to injury and James Anderson is on England duty.
Considering the amount of cricket played since April, this is only the second time these two counties have met this season. That encounter was the first match of the season, when Lancashire went to Hove and came away with an impressive outright victory – spearheaded by a record 11-wicket haul from James Anderson and ably supported by spinner Gary Keedy and Ashwell Prince with the bat.
