Lancashire paceman James Anderson is to miss out on England's forthcoming tour of the UAE and Bangladesh as he returns home to rest a knee injury.

The ECB announced today that Anderson has been rested from the tour in order to undergo a specialist review and period of rehabilitation for his chronic right knee problem. After this treatment, it is expected that Jimmy will be fit and available for selection for England’s World T20 campaign in the West Indies, which begins in late April.

England captain Andrew Strauss has also been rested, and Alastair Cook will take on the leadership of both the Test and One-Day sides, while Paul Collingwood assumes charge of the T20 team. Uncapped players Ajmal Shahzad of Yorkshire and James Tredwell of Kent are included in both squads, and Hampshire’s Michael Carberry gains a place in the Test squad.

The tour begins on February 13th, ahead of the first T20 International against Pakistan in Dubai, on 19th February.
