Congratulations to Glen Chapple who has become just the 5th Lancashire player to have scored 7,000 runs and taken 700 wickets in first-class cricket for the County

Glen reached the 7,000 runs when he scored his first run during his innings against Yorkshire at Liverpool.

The captain reached the landmark during his 248th first-class game for Lancashire, making him only the fifth player to reach this landmark for the County.

Glen Chapple Career Details

Glen joins an elite band of Lancashire players. The first four players to reach 7,000 runs and 700 wickets are:-

Richard (R.G.) Barlow
It took Barlow 224 matches to reach this landmark when playing against Sussex at Old Trafford in 1890.

Johnny Briggs
The legendary left arm spinner Briggs followed four years later in a match against Middlesex at Lord’s, his 234th match for Lancashire.

Jack Simmons
There followed a gap of exactly 100 years before this milestone was reached for the third time. Off spinner Jack Simmons hit his 7,000th run during an undefeated innings of 42 against Essex at Southend in his 335th match.

Mike Watkinson
Mike Watkinson remains the only player to have reached the batting landmark first. His 5-45 against Essex at Chelmsford in 1988 took him past the 700 wicket mark in his 283rd first-class match for Lancashire.
