On a windswept and rain-hit day, the Lancashire Colts came up trumps in a tight low scoring affair to win by 2 wickets against Barrow
Captain Jason Swift won the toss and elected to bowl on a firm wicket offering favourable early seamer friendly conditions.
Barrow could only manage 98 all out from 35.2 overs as Alex Matthews took a 5-33 burst off 13 overs for Lancs accounting for both Barrows openers and lower order including the key wicket of Barrow overseas star Pieter Malan, caught behind for 21.
He was well supported by Adam Hogkins who returned figures of 1-27 from 11 overs in which he took the prize wicket of Liam Livingstone (caught behind) for 11. Bowlers Curtis McGuire and Ross Dixon also chipped in with figures of 2-14 off 7 overs and 1-13 off 4.2 overs respectively. Lancs keeper Will Loosemore also took 4 catches behind the stumps.
Despite rain interrupting play through the first innings the Lancs reply got underway and saw three early wickets fall including Mark Walling lbw for 2, Ammer Mirza run out for 11 and Ben Sloan bowled for 4 to leave the score at 38-3 inside 11 overs.
Ollie Law came to the crease and steadied the ship with 31 off 70 balls (5x4s) alongside Luke Williams (19) to take the Colts insight of victory.
Barrow hit back quickly and removed Law (bowled for 31) and Will Loosemore (lbw first ball) in successive deliveries. Thanks largely to a useful spell of bowling by Daryl Wearing, the Colts found themselves struggling at 67-5 off 20 overs. Barrow then tightened their grip further taking three more wickets to leave the score 87-8 off 26 overs.
It was left to Adam Hodgkins and captain Jason Swift to see Lancs home as he hit 22 from 30 balls (1x4s, 1x6s) and secure their 3rd Northern League win of the campaign.
Lancashire Colts next game is against Preston on Sunday, 29th May.
