Lancashire Colts have played two matches in the Furness Building Society Northern Premier League so far this season, with one win and one defeat

Leyland CC vs Lancashire CB Colts, Sunday 22 April
Leyland 229-7 (47 overs)
Colts 85 all out (37.1 overs)
Colts lost by 144 runs

The Colts won the toss and invited Leyland to bat after a slight delay clearing up a wet part of the square, reducing the game to 47 overs per side. Leyland opened with the pairing of Luis Reece and Henry Thompson who added 78 for the opening wicket with a fine array of shots. Lancs struck when Reece went for 36 (caught) off the bowling of Steven Gregory. A further wicket soon fell when Thompson went for 44 (stumped Gary Knight) off the bowling of Daniel Edwards to leave the score at 96/2 off 20 overs.

Leyland’s middle order then added useful contributions throughout and advanced the score quickly with few chances offered. Brett Pelser made 45 off 41 balls (2x4s, 4x6s) to add useful middle order runs for Leyland who closed at 229/7 off 47 overs. Daniel Hawke and Robert Jones were the pick of the Lancs bowlers with 2-32 off 9 overs & 2-37 off 10 overs respectively.
With a target of 230 off 47 overs to win, the Lancs reply got off to the worse possible start as Leyland seamers Dale Jones and Pelser took the early wickets of both Colts openers Tim Le Breton and Salif Benjani to leave the score at 0/2 off 2 overs. The pairing of Mark Walling and Robert Jones then briefly restored order with a 3rd wicket stand of 57. Then David Makinson struck twice, bowling Jones for 18 and Walling lbw for 42 from 81 balls (2x4s) to make the score 68/4 off 25.3 overs. Leyland then used the experience of Makinson in partnership with the off-spin of Thompson to take the remaining wickets. Lancs finally were dismissed for 85 all out off 37.1 overs. Makinson finished with bowling figures of 5-6 off 8.1 overs, and Thompson 3-13 off 7 overs.

Our next game will see us face Darwen CC on Sunday, 6th May 2012.

Blackpool CC vs Lancashire CB Colts, Sunday 15 April
Colts 183-5 (50 overs)
Blackpool 181-7 (50 overs)
Colts claim winning draw

Lancashire Colts won the toss and elected to bat in fine to overcast conditions. Henry Thompson made 69 from 126 balls (6x4s) and Fayez Ughradar 44 from 75 balls (5x4s) in the Colts' 183/5 (50 overs). For Blackpool, Richard Gleeson and Dale Deeb returned figures of 2-62 from 20 overs and 2-66 from 21 overs respectively.
Blackpool lost wickets at regular intervals, with the off-spin and leg-break pairing of Tim Le Breton and Robert Jones proving very effective. Captain Paul Danson weighed in with a rapid assault of 65 from 64 balls (7x4s) down the order to keep his team in the hunt, but it proved to be not quite enough with the home side finishing on 181/7 from their 50 overs. The best of the Colts bowling went to Tim Le Breton and Robert Jones who shared 6 wickets with figures of 3-34 from 10 overs and 3-57 from 19 overs respectively.
