The Lancashire Colts defeated Lancaster by 40 runs in their Furness Building Society Northern Premier League match
Lancashire Colts 180-8 (50 overs) Dewhurst 74
Lancaster CC 140 all out (45.4 overs) Maddox 3-42
Colts won by 40 runs
Lancs won the toss and elected to bat on a greenish surface and found the early conditions hard to bat on.
F Ughradar and J Hooson laid the batting foundations with an opening partnership of 34 before Ughradar fell lbw for 21 to Lancaster's Zimbabwean pro T. Muruma. A second wicket soon followed when Hooson went for 15 with the score on 38/2 inside 20 overs.
The Colts rallied with a 3rd wicket partnership of 102 thanks to the efforts of captain J Dewhurst (74) and R Jones (29) with vital contributions to the innings. Dewhurst's innings helped Lancs to post a credible 180/8 from their 50 overs allocation, while. B Simm returned the best bowling figures with 5-69 from 14.5 overs.
In response, Lancaster CC lost wickets at regular intervals as the Colt bowlers applied the early pressure. Opening bowlers M Burns and D Hawke shared the initial two wickets to leave the home side at 6/2 inside 3 overs. This would soon get to 89/8 with solid back-up bowling from B Saunders, S Mahmood, F Ughradar, & B Maddox. All took wickets and looked to have put the Colts on the road to victory.
However, a 9th and 10th wicket fightback from the Lancaster tail-end threatened that assumption as Lancaster's Sparks struck a quick 48 from 33 balls (5x4s, 2x6s) before he was was eventually stumped by Knight off the bowling of Maddox who returned our best bowling figures with 3-42 from 7.4 overs. Lancaster were eventually dismissed for 140 all out off 45.4 overs to give the Coltys a 40 run victory.
