The Lancashire Colts suffered an eight-wicket defeat against Fleetwood in Furness Building Society Northern Premier League
Fleetwood CC v Lancashire Colts, Sunday 17th June
Lancashire Colts 131-8 (44 overs)
Fleetwood 132-2 (31.2 overs)
In fine conditions at Fleetwood CC, the home side won the toss and invited Lancashire Colts to bat on a good to firm wicket offering early seamer friendly conditions. The wet outfield though meant time was lost at the start with both sides restricted to a 44 over per side game.
Opening with Fayaz Ughradar and Hasseeb Hameed, Lancs found the early going tough as Fleetwood’ bowled a tight line. The Colts lost Ughradar, caught by T Wilson at slip off Adam Parker for 6, before Hameed departed for 1 off the bowling of Shaun Liebisch in similar fashion to leave the score at 7-2 inside 8 overs.
Mark Friend and Robert Jones fought back with a steady partnership to see off the new ball, but a 3rd wicket arrived with Friend out lbw for 20 to first change bowler Naveed Yousuf. Lancs were struggling at 36-3 off 19 overs, but a fourth wicket stand of 57 between Jones and Charlie Taylor maintained a fight back for the Colts with Jones pushing on to post the top score in the innings with 67 off 102 balls (5x4s).
It meant Lancashire Colts finished on 131-8 from their 44 overs. The best of the Fleetwood CC bowling saw Anthony Ellison return figures of 8 overs 2-33, Naveed Yousuf 10 overs 1-22 & Shaun Liebisch 12 overs 1-34.
In response, Fleetwood CC openers Naveed Yousuf and Adam Parker accumulated runs quickly to maintain a strong opening stand. They reached 89-0 in 16 overs before Jones dismissed Adam Parker out for 39 (caught Hasseeb Hameed). A second wicket quickly followed with Dean Bell lbw to Jones for 6, but no further wickets fell as Fleetwood reached their target off 31.2 overs. Naveed Yousuf scored 73 from 86 balls (11x4, 2x6) while the Lancashire Colts' Robert Jones returned 2-25 from 9 overs.
