The Lancashire Way launched

THE LANCASHIRE Way was launched at Emirates Old Trafford yesterday with guests from across the world of sport and entertainment in attendance.

Lancashire players Tom Smith, Kyle Hogg, Kabir Ali and Tom Bailey were joined by LCCC Foundation Ambassadors Phil Neville (Everton FC), Peter Reid (former footballer and manager), Mark Chapman (Broadcaster) Andy Burnham MP (Shadow Secretary of State for Health), Alex Winters (CBeebies presenter) and Sgt Rick Clement (former serviceman with the Duke of Lancaster Regiment) plus Adam Bogdan (Bolton Wanderers FC), Lydia Greenway (England cricketer) and players from the England Physical Disability squad at the club’s Indoor Cricket Centre.

Lancashire Way is an exciting joint project which Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation and the Lancashire Cricket Board are undertaking throughout 2013. Under the title, ‘Lancashire Way’ all three parties will be working closely together to promote inclusivity and to raise the participation levels of cricket across our region through six key initiatives:

• Schools Open Day – on 8th May – 3-5000 school children will visit Emirates Old Trafford for day two of Lancs v Essex LV=County Championship game demonstrating that Emirates Old Trafford is officially open to the Community.

• Disability Cricket - Highlighting the good work we already do for cricketers with disabilities.
. Promoting other forms of cricket, suitable for players with differing types of disabilities. Competitions will be held across Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire involving over 250 disabled cricketers.

• Girls’ Cricket Programme - Highlighting the excellent work we do with girls’ cricket with the aim of increasing participation levels.

• Ethnic Minority Cricket - A recruitment drive aimed specifically at players from a South Asian background with nominations from multiple areas. This will be in the form of an ‘X-Factor’ style talent identification programme which will culminate in the involvement of Lancashire County Cricket Club coaches.

• Introduction to Cricket Scheme for Adults - This four-week course is aimed at adults who have never played cricket before, with the ultimate aim of increasing adult participation in the sport. During the programme, participants will learn the basics of the game in a fun and enjoyable environment. They will complete the course equipped with the basic skills to play the game socially.

• Corporate 6-a-side Competitions - Our 6-a-side competitions are for mixed teams (at least 1 female player per team) and are aimed at local businesses to highlight the fun of playing cricket. These one-off competitions will be held on a single evening, with four teams playing each other over the course of the evening in three hours of action-packed 6-a-side indoor cricket.
