Colts game ruined by rain

The Lancashire Colts game against St.Annes was halted during the second innings by rain.

On a sunny day following heavy overnight showers in St Annes, Lancs won the toss, and elected to field on a firm surface. From the off St Annes set about building a rapid total with Lukman Vahaluwala and captain Andy Kellet posting 71 without loss for the opening wicket.

John Dotters claimed the first wicket of the game when he had Kellet (caught at first slip by James Drummond) for 12. This then became two for him in the space of several overs when he claimed his second wicket in Nantesh Kirupuran for 3 (caught by Guy Dunbavand at second slip).

A 3rd wicket stand of 106 between Lukman Vahaluwala and Nathan Armstrong then carried  St Annes forward to a firm total of 237/4 declared of 47 overs.  Vahaluwala eventually fell for 116 off 116 balls (bowled by Sukruk Khan) this included 16x4s, 2x6s. For Lancs, the best of the bowling saw John Dotters return 2-48 from 14 overs (3 maidens).

The second half saw more overcast conditions role into the game and Lancs started in a strong fashion putting on 61 runs for the first wicket with the partnership of Callum Turner and Haseeb Hameed inside 14 overs. Turner fell shortly after (caught and bowled) for 23 off the bowling of Matt Grindley as Lancs lost their first wicket. St Anne’s CC then claimed a quick second wicket with James Drummond out for 14 (stumped C Jones) off the bowling of Toby Bulcock and the score 80/2 at this stage of the game.

Eventually, the rain had the final say in the game as play was abandoned due to heavy and persistent showers. Lancs finishing with 84/2 off 20 overs, with Haseeb Hameed on 40 (not out) from 63 balls (3x4s, 2x6s).
