Lancs Thrilled With International Success

NEARLY 150,000 spectators helped to put Emirates Old Trafford back on the international cricket venue map this summer as Lancashire County Cricket Club successfully hosted England v Australia in both an Investec Ashes Test and NatWest One Day International.

The Ashes Test in August was the first one held in Manchester since 2005 with a capacity crowd of 25,750 – the highest outside Lords’ – attending for the first four days as England successfully retained The Urn in the 45 million redeveloped stadium.

Although Australia managed to defeat England in the ODI, over 24,000 cricket lovers enjoyed their day at Emirates Old Trafford.

And with the dates for next year’s Internationals announced (Royal London ODI – England v Sri Lanka Wednesday 28 May 2014 and Investec Test England v India Thursday 7 August to Monday 11 August 2014), the Club is urging supporters to stay ahead of the game by registering their interest for both matches.

LCCC Chief Executive Daniel Gidney said: “We are delighted to have held two such fantastic international matches here at Emirates Old Trafford, the success of which has put us firmly back on the map as a major sporting venue.

“There is a clear demand for International cricket here in the North West and we are already looking forward to next season.”
