Only 10 overs were possible on a rain-hit day in Bristol in this penultimate game of the 2013 season.
Lancashire lost two early wickets during a badly rain-affected opening day of this LV= County Championship match against Gloucestershire after being put in to bat, finishing the day on 33-2.
Glen Chapple, back at the helm after missing last week’s draw with Leicestershire due to injury. He was one of two changes to the Lancashire line-up, coming in for Andrea Agathangelou, while Karl Brown replaced Simon Katich, who left Manchester at the weekend to assume control of the Perth Scorchers’ Champions League t20 campaign in India.
Paul Horton was caught behind off Will Gidman only six balls into the match to leave the score at 0-1, although the suggestion is that the ball hit trouser rather than bat on the way through to wicketkeeper Gareth Roderick.
The Red Rose were soon 6-2 in the fifth when Gidman uprooted Ashwell Prince’s middle stump.
Luis Reece, searching for his eighth successive Championship fifty, and Brown then began a recovery in testing conditions. Brown led the way with five fours in 20 not out. The last ball before play was interrupted was a glorious cover drive off David Payne. Reece will resume in the morning unbeaten on 12.
