Alex Davies came through the ranks at Darwen CC, and he has played for Lancashire at every age level.

He made his first-team debut in a 40-over game against Glamorgan in 2011 two days before his 17th birthday, becoming Lancashire's youngest ever one-day player in the process. And he made his first-class debut against Surrey at Liverpool at the end of the 2012 County Championship season.

He joined the Lancashire Academy at the end of 2010 before being awarded a joint Academy/Scholarship contract for 2012. He signed as a professional ahead of the 2013 summer.

Davies is an aggressive top/middle order batsman and wicketkeeper who performed well in the second team in 2012 with 360 runs at 54.5 in all three-day cricket.

After opening the batting for England at the Under 19 World Cup in Australia in early 2012, he returned Down Under to experience grade cricket in Melbourne in the 2012/2013 winter.

It proved to be the ideal preparation for the 2013 domestic season as, having moved league clubs from Darwen to Lytham in the Liverpool Competition, he started the summer like a house on fire with the bat for both them and the Red Rose seconds.

He returned to first-team colours for a three-day friendly against the students of Leeds/Bradford MCC Universities to make a composed first-innings 69.

And when the club’s hierarchy made the decision to drop Gareth Cross from the Championship side later in the season, the 19-year-old stepped in to play the last three matches and enhance his reputation.

Lancashire have signed England one-day wicketkeeper Jos Buttler to be their senior wicketkeeper in 2014. But with the former Somerset man likely to be unavailable for parts of the summer due to international commitments, Davies is set to see some more first-team action.
