Lancashire really have got themselves an all-rounder in the form of ex-Derbyshire and Leicestershire man Wayne White!
Not only can the 27-year-old, nicknamed Chalky, bowl, bat and field, he will also be pretty handy in nets during the pre-day five-a-side kickabout having played semi-professional football for East Midlands side Long Eaton as a goalkeeper before opting for leather and willow.
White arrives at Old Trafford primarily to add weight to the county’s seam bowling stocks, although he should prove to be a dangerous customer with the bat in the Red Rose county’s lower to middle order in all forms of the game as well.
He made his first-class debut for Derbyshire against Roses rivals Yorkshire in the latter stages of the 2005 season, and has gone on to play 62 first-class matches in all ahead of the 2013 campaign, taking 139 wickets and scoring 2,285 runs. He has one century to his name and four five-wicket hauls.
Derby-born White was released by his home county at the end of the 2008 season before impressing on trial at Grace Road and subsequently earning a contract.
The early stages of his career were blighted by injury, including a double stress fracture of the back to virtually wipe out 2006, but the last two summers have been by far and away the most successful of his career in the longer format, with hauls of 38 and 43 wickets in 2011 and 2012 as well as tallies of 789 and 616 runs.
He was in the Leicestershire team who won the Friends Life t20 title in 2011, and was also part of the Foxes side who saw off the Lightning in the semi-final at Edgbaston. He was the bowler who Gareth Cross hit for six off the final ball of the match to take it into a Super Over Eliminator.
White has been preparing for his first campaign with Lancashire by playing Australian grade cricket for Melbourne side McKinnon.
