South African Star Honoured By Red Rose

ASHWELL PRINCE was awarded his county cap by Lancashire prior to Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 game against Surrey Lions at Old Trafford.

The 32-year-old South African batsman was presented with his cap before the start of play.

Prince arrived at Lancashire at the start of the 2009 season and proved to be an instant hit for the Red Rose.

He excelled in all forms of the game during his initial two-month stay and returned for a second stint with the county at the start of the current campaign.

The Port Elizabeth born star will return to his country following the LV= County Championship match against Yorkshire at Headingley which starts on Saturday 29 May.

LCCC Cricket Director Mike Watkinson said: "During his tenure with Lancashire, Ashwell has been a valued member of the squad and has contributed with some vital knocks. He is world class cricketer who certainly deserves his county cap.

"He is popular on and off the field, and his vast cricketing experience has benefited some of the younger lads.

"We wish him well for the future and would like to thank him for his involvement with the county over the past couple of seasons."
