WITH THE domestic season drawing ever closer, the Lancashire playing squad will be stepping up their preparations for the 2013 campaign by doing some warm weather training in Spain.
Over the course of the next two weeks, two groups of six players will be spending a week each at the famous Desert Springs resort in Almanzora, Spain, doing three sessions a day which will include strength work, running, and speed and agility work. As they will be outside and on grass, the squad will be able to do more fielding practice than would be possible indoors.
David Roberts Physiotherapy, who have been Lancashire's official medical services partner for the past 12 years, arranged the sessions through their partnership with Desert Springs.
Lancashire physiotherapist Sam Byrne said: "The players are all desperate to bounce back out of Division Two and build on some impressive one day performances last year.
"They have been working hard on their skills with Peter Moores and the coaches since late November and putting in the hard yards with Phil Scott our new Strength and Conditioning Coach in the gym.
"Being able to get outside at Desert Springs, with the facilities and weather they have, will really give us the chance to increase the amount and intensity of physical training we're doing.
"The bowlers will be able to start to run through on grass and we'll get plenty of high intensity fielding and throwing done in realistic conditions."
Tania Hitchens, owner of Desert Springs, said: "We've been supporters of English cricket for a long time and when Dave Roberts approached us with the idea of jointly sponsoring the team to come out to Desert Springs along with David Roberts Physiotherapy, we jumped at the chance to host them.
"We've hosted numerous football and cricket teams as well as school groups, and we think the facilities, food and weather make it the perfect one-stop-shop for teams to come and train."
