Day 1: After the low scores in the Trophy match the day before, Notts asked Lancs to bat but it looked to have backfired when the Red Rose reached 84-0 before a mini collapse left the score on 109-4 at lunch. Livingstone was not out 4 and he was joined belatedly by Davies after a fitness test. The afternoon session belonged to Lancs, losing only one wicket - that of Davies for 44 - while adding 126 runs. Davies and Livingstone added 103 for the 5th wicket to take Lancashire to 235-5 at tea. Livingstone reached his century in the evening sesssion, adding an outstanding 183 for the 6th wicket with Oliver Newby who struck a fine 92 - falling to the introduction of the new ball.. Livingstone went on to a career best of 143 not out by the close with Lancashire on a commanding 398-6.

Day 2: Livingstone added 6 to his overnight score before edging to the keeper one short of 150 as Lancs closed their innings on 455.

Griffiths struck early with 3 wickets in his opening spell to leave Notts 26-3. The visitors then grafted to reach 49-3 at lunch. Procter destroyed their middle order with 3 wickets in his first 3 overs after the interval to have Notts reeling before Ghaus struck in the next over to make the score 77-7.  Bacon then became Procter’s 4th wicket to put Notts in deep trouble on 80-8.  Two sharp chances to slip and gully were missed and Notts rallied, adding 81 for the 9th wicket before Ghaus finished the innings with two edges to the keeper.

Notts were 161 all out and unsurprisingly asked to follow on. Griffiths soon struck again, and Newby then picked up 2 wickets to leave Notts on 28-3. Procter struck in his first over again, to make it 67-4 and a sharp run out by Davies, out in the field and not keeping wicket, brought the last wicket of the day. Notts closed on 108-5, still trailing by 186 runs going into the final day.

Day 3:All thoughts of a quick victory disappeared as Cumbrian trialist Platten and Tilcock battled through the morning session, walking off at lunch 171-5. Platten reached 50 the over after lunch, Tilcock reached his 50 in the 83rd over. Finally a breakthrough arrived when Agathangelou trapped Tilcock lbw in the next over. Platten reached his 100 in the 98th over before McKiernan bowled him in the following over. Notts 277-7, needed another 18 to make Lancs bat again but Newby returned to take the new ball and clean bowled Bacon and Phillips in two balls. Wood survived the hat trick ball. Griffiths returned to the attack and finished the innings by getting Hutton caught behind by Gowers with the visitors four runs away from avoiding an innings defeat. Darrin White
