Three early wickets with only 37 on the board put Lancashire on the back foot, with Davies' 35 and Newby top scoring with a trophy best of 49 the main resistance to Lucas who took 6-37. Whitehead, on Trophy debut, made a useful 21 and added 50 for the 6th wicket with Newby. The fall of three wickets in the 33rd over saw Lancashire finish on 205 all out.
Griffiths struck for the first wicket, but it was Ghaus who took out the Worcs top order with figures of 3 for 12 in his first spell to leave the visitors 51 for 4 after 9 overs. A partnership of 66 steadied the Worcs innings, but McKiernan had captain Johnson caught at deep mid-wicket and that effectively signalled the end of the Pears run chase. Two more wickets for Ghaus gave the fast bowler his first 5 wicket haul for Lancashire won ran out winners by 28 runs.
