2ndXI match drawn

The 2ndXI Championship against Derbyshire at Belper ended in a draw

Derbyshire v Lancashire, 2ndXI Championship, Belper, 8-10 May
Drawn, Derbyshire 9 points, Lancashire 8 points

Toss: Derbyshire
Lancashire 1st innings: 260 all out (77.4 overs) Agathangelou 91, Reece 78, Moore 50, Higginbottom 4-66, Norman 3-36.
Derbyshire 1st innings: 237-6 (71 overs)

Team: Stephen Moore (capt), Alex Davies (wk), Andrea Agathangelou, Jordan Clark, Luis Reece, Arron Lilley, Liam Livingstone, Rob Jones, Danny Lamb, Liam Hurt, Adnan Ghaus, Mattie McKiernan.

Report: 1st day - Drizzle delayed the start as lunch was taken early with a 1:10pm start, with two 3 hour sessions. Three Lancashire players made their 2ndXI Championship debuts; Mattie McKiernan (Leigh CC), Danny Lamb (Leyland CC) and Liam Hurt (Ormskirk CC).

Derbyshire won the toss and bowled, but it looked to have backfired as Stephen Moore and Luis Reece reached 50 in the 7th over. Moore went on to reach a half century before edging to wicketkeeper Poynton off the next ball. By tea Lancashire had made 185 for 1 after 47 overs with Andrea Agathangelou on 60 and Luis Reece 61. After the break Lancashire had moved on to 229 before a mix up at the wicket saw Reece run out for 78. This prompted something of a collapse as seven wickets fell before bad light brought an early close of play with Lancashire on 260 for 9 from 77 overs.

2nd day: Lancashire's first innings ended after just four deliveries without any addition to their overnight score. Derbyshire started their reply well, quickly moving on to 61 before Luis Reece struck thanks to a stunning catch at gully by Liam Livingstone. Jordan Clark bowling first change had Borrington caught behind for 22, while the introduction of quick bowling debutant Liam Hurt gave Lancashire the advantage when he struck twice in his 3rd over, Slater caught behind and Poynton bowled for 0. Derbyshire reached lunch on 104-4, but rain prevented any further play.

3rd day: With so much time lost to rain Derbyshire decided to continue their first innings when play resumed at 1.55pm. Two wickets did fall in the session, Jordan Clark bowling Norman, a trialist from Glamorgan and Arron Lilley taking top scorer Whiteley caught and bowled for 82. Midway through the afternoon the game was abandoned due to a serious fire at the old Thornton’s chocolate factory next to the ground with the police concerned about toxic fumes from burning asbestos.
