The 2nd XI played two one-day matches at Northern CC against an England Developing Players XI (under 18's)
Game 1-23 August
Lancashire batted first by agreement due to a crash on the M6 delaying the players based north of Crosby.
Louis Bentley was caught at fine leg off the first ball of the match, but Henry Thompson and Liam Livingstone looked in no trouble adding 102 for the 2nd wicket before Thompson fell for 49. Livingstone went shortly after for 47, to leave Lancashire on 109 for 3 at the half way stage. Arron Lilley and Tom Bailey with some late hitting took the score to 221 all out.
Tom Bailey struck with his first ball at the start of the EDP innings, but Lancs struggled to make a further breakthrough. It was the 35th over before Mattie McKiernan took the second England wicket at 164, and Bailey struck again in his first over of his 2nd spell to make it 198 for 3, but England went on to win with 5 overs to spare.
Game 2 - 25 August
England batted first and had moved onto 57 before Michael Burns struck in the 12th over. The introduction of the spinners, Lilley and McKiernan, slowed the England progress both in terms of runs and wickets. Lilley struck in his 1st over to make it 84 for 2 in the 18th over, and England only added a further 57 over the following 20 overs, to reach 141 for 6 after 38 overs, Lilley taking 2-29 and McKiernan 3-28. England scored quickly in their last 12 overs and finished on 236 -7.
Lancashire started steadily in reply, scoring 81 from the first 18 overs but then lost the two openers Tom Smith and Henry Thompson in two overs. Rain interrupted procedings just after the loss of Liam Kivingstone for 22, and during a brief resumption Jordan Clark departed to leave Lancashire at 139 for 5 after 33 overs. After a 50 minute delay, and a loss of momentum three run outs seemed to have curtailed the home side's run chase, but Lilley had other ideas and smashed 62 off 40 balls. The loss of Burns for 13 left the final pair of Lilley and Jack Dewhurst needing 21 off 9 balls and they finished seven runs short of their target at the end of the 50 overs
