The meeting of last year's finalists at Westhoughton was delayed by an hour, but without any overs being lost and it turned in to an exciting finish.
Lancashire won the toss and raced away with openers Luis Reece and Alex Davies attacking in the first powerplay to post 50-0. They took the 2nd powerplay straight away, adding 40 runs in 4 overs despite losing Reece for 32 in the 11th over.
Davies reaching his 50 from 37 balls two overs later, and 16-year-old Harry Dearden on debut didn’t look out of place making 17 as Lancashire moved on to 112-2. Davies was pick of the batsmen, reaching 94 before behind caught behind to a leg side delivery in the 34th over. Khalid Sawaz made 32 and Arron Lilley finished the innings with two huge sixes, little knowing how important they would be later.
Lancashire struck early with two wickets by Kabir Ali in his first spell to send back Durham's Muchall and Clark, and when Mo Abid bowled Atkinson in his first over the visitors were 81-3 after 23 overs. The mainstay of the Durham innings was Singh who made a run-a-ball 106 before falling to Adnan Ghaus. A late flurry from Wallace (36) and Claydon (run out by Lilley for 16) took Durham close but Lancashire just held on to win by 4 runs.
