Anderson Shortlisted For Top Awards

Anderson Shortlisted For Top Awards

JAMES ANDERSON has been shortlisted for both the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year.

The Lancastrian has been nominated for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy (for ICC Cricketer of the Year) alongside Hasim Amla, Michael Clarke, MS Dhoni, Kumar Sangakkara and England Captain Alastair Cook.

The fast bowler has enjoyed a spectacular calendar year. He led England to a third successive Ashes triumph, claimed his 300th test wicket, became England's leading ODI wicket-taker during the ICC Champions Trophy and firmly established himself as one of cricket’s elite fast bowlers.

The Burnley-born bowler was also named in both the ICC Test and one-day teams of the year, and is currently second on the all-time list of English test wicket takers behind Sir Ian Botham.

According to ex-Pakistan and Lancashire great Wasim Akram, Anderson is the best bowler in the world.

“Jimmy Anderson is leading from the front. For me he is the best bowler of this era,” Wasim told BBC Sport.

“He does it consistently, with the new ball and the old ball.”

The 2013 LG ICC Awards are based upon matches played between 7 August 2012 and 25 August 2013, and are voted for by an independent, 32-person voting academy – that is made up of former cricketers, members of the media, and three ICC representatives.

Anderson could be following in the footsteps of Lancashire and England great Andrew Flintoff, who jointly won the award in 2005.

The winner of the Cricketer of the Year and Test Cricketer of the Year will be announced on 14th December.
