Book Signing In Altrincham

Book Signing In AltrinchamLANCASHIRE'S former captain Mark Chilton and cricket's County Championship trophy will be at Waterstone's in Altrincham on Saturday

The club made history by securing the title outright for the first time in 77 years after a nail-biting final day of the campaign in September.

To mark the historic achievement, Altrincham-born journalist Chris Ostick and colleague Graham Hardcastle have released a book 'Champions...about bloomin' time' which chronicles the club's triumphant season.

The book attracted much attention at its launch last Tuesday afternoon in the Members’ Suite at Old Trafford where the players, as well as the authors were on hand to sign copies for the Red Rose supporters.

Ostick and Hardcastle, who cover cricket for the Manchester Evening News, followed the county up and down the country last season and have captured every dramatic moment in the book, which includes match reports from all 16 games, exclusive interviews with the players and coach Peter Moores, a behind-the-scenes insight to the campaign as well as over 100 photographs.

Chilton - who helped secure the title last season in his final year at the club before retiring - will be on hand along with the authors to sign copies of the book.

"Lancashire fans have been waiting so long for their county to win the title and it was a pleasure to be able to be a small part of it," said Ostick. "We say in the book that this wasn't meant to be the year the club finally broke their jinx because they had huge financial problems and were caught up in a legal battle over the redevelopment of the ground.

"But a team of largely young, homegrown players produced some stunning cricket and showed amazing belief and team spirit to finally end what has been an agonising wait for all Lancashire fans and players.

"The book doesn't just tell what was an amazing story, it captures a piece of Lancashire history."

Chilton, Ostick and Hardcastle will be at Waterstone's in Altrincham from 1pm to 3pm.

The authors, along with the Championship trophy, will also be at Waterstone’s in Preston on Friday 16th December at 11am.
